Zenlynx, a provider of advanced telecommunications electronics and system solutions, has selected MaxLinear’s Sierra single-chip radio system-on-chip (SoC) for its next-generation RRU4401S indoor Open RAN Radio Unit (O-RU). This collaboration supports Zenlynx’s continued focus on compact, energy-efficient, and flexible indoor connectivity solutions for enterprise and neutral-host networks.

The RRU4401S is designed to meet the growing demand for high-capacity indoor mobile coverage. This includes offices, venues, transportation hubs, and industrial environments. Importantly, the design is based on MaxLinear’s Sierra platform. As a result, it enables a highly integrated radio architecture with lower system complexity and scalable performance for 4G and 5G networks.

Compact and Energy-Efficient Indoor Radio Design

By using a single-chip radio SoC, Zenlynx significantly simplifies the overall radio architecture. Consequently, the RRU4401S achieves a smaller footprint and lower power consumption. In addition, thermal efficiency is improved, which is critical for indoor deployments with limited space.

Moreover, the Sierra platform integrates advanced processing capabilities. This allows more efficient RF optimization. Therefore, operators can achieve strong performance while reducing energy usage. In many cases, the design is well suited for Power over Ethernet (PoE)-enabled indoor deployments. As a result, both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) can be reduced.

Flexible Multi-Band Open RAN Architecture

In addition to efficiency, the RRU4401S prioritizes deployment flexibility. It supports single-, dual-, and multi-band configurations. This is achieved through a modular RF front-end design. Furthermore, this approach allows Zenlynx to address different regional and operator requirements. Importantly, it avoids the need for separate hardware platforms for each use case.

Because of its Open RAN architecture, the system also supports interoperable deployments. For example, it enables neutral-host and multi-operator network models. These capabilities are increasingly important in modern indoor environments.
